-Living “the dash”-
What will be left of all the fearing and wanting associated with your problematic life situation that every day takes up most of your attention?
A dash — one or two inches long, between the date of birth and date of death on your gravestone.
To the egoic self, this is a depressing thought. To you, it is liberating.”
-Eckhart Tolle “Stillness Speaks”
Wow, that is a quote that makes you think. I read this several times, and at first I was horrified by it, but then I loved it. It really makes you think about how you spend the “dash.”
A few years ago I received the information that worry, guilt and regret are equivalent to negative prayer! Regardless of your religious background, if you are going to pray for someone, then certainly you would pray for their best. Worrying about someone (or yourself) is sending out negative energy to the situation, also known as negative prayer.
I discovered a way to alter this, it does really work – I am living proof. To do this I gift you the Family Feud “X”, (now you can not say I never gave you anything). Do you remember what happens when someone gets a wrong answer in Family Feud? Do the big red X and the loud deep buzzer ring a bell? I gift you this X (plus or minus the sound – you decide) for when you catch yourself starting to worry, before you enter the worry spin. Use this to cancel out the thought. Then you can replace the thought with what you actually would want to happen. It is a simple technique, a way to retrain your brain. How nice would it be to have a way to NOT WORRY.
What does it mean to live the dash? Many people go through the motions of life, stuck in a routine and miss the small details that make life rich. By removing the “fearing and wanting” it allows us to free up the time to begin living life for the moment, in full color.
- Now that is living the “dash.”
